Abstract

1,234,525. Stabilizing unsaturated esters. SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 8 Sept., 1969, No. 44209/69. Heading C2C. Unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acid esters e.g. methacrylates and acrylates, in an aqueous solution are inhibited against polymerization by incorporating a conventional inhibitor and at least one condensed phosphoric acid salt or silicic acid salt. Hydroquinone, hydroquinone monomethyl ether, pyrogallol, resorcinol and methylene blue are the inhibitors mentioned and salts of poly-, meta- and ultraphosphoric acids such as sodium and potassium pyro-, tripoly-, tetrapoly-, tetrameta- and hexametaphosphates and sodium and potassium silicates are specified. Examples describe the stabilization of solutions prepared by the esterification with methanol of methacrylamide sulphate prepared from acetone cyanhydrin and sulphuric acid.
