Abstract

1,196,069. Stabilized cyanoacrylic esters. INTERCONTINENTAL CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 6 Nov., 1968 [10 Nov., 1967; 5 Jan., 1968], No. 52518/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions B5 and C3] A stabilized adhesive composition comprises at least one monomeric ester of 2-cyanoacrylic acid and at least one sultone as stabilizer, wherein the esters are of the general formula wherein R is a C 1-16 alkyl, cyclohexyl or phenyl group. The stabilizer which may be present in an amount of 0À01 to 2% by wt., may be propane sultone, 1,8-naphthosultone, monochlorotolyl sultone, Bromophenol Blue or α-dimethyl-γ-dimethyl butane sultone, and the composition may also contain at least one free radical polymerization inhibitor of the phenolic type in a concentration of 0À001-1% by wt. The compositions may also include other conventional additives, e.g. thickeners, plasticizers and diluents. The esters may be obtained by depolymerization of the corresponding polymer.
