Abstract

1315877 Stabilizing acrylic and methacrylic acids JAPANESE GEON CO Ltd 7 July 1971 [7 July 1970 28 Dec 1970] 31878/71 Heading C2C Acrylic or methacrylic acids are stabilized against polymerization by adding (i) one or more oxyacid of phosphorus, and/or phosphorus oxide and (ii) one or more hydroxy compound which is a cresol, 4,4-thiobis-6-tert-butyl-3- methyl phenol, a dihydroxybenzene derivative or pyrogallol. A third compound which is a phosphorus acid ester, a phosphine derivative or benzaldehyde may also be added to increase the stabilization effect. Hypophosphorous, phosphorous, diphosphorous, iso-hypophosphoric, ortho-phosphoric, pyrophosphoric, metaphosphoric and polyphosphoric acids are mentioned together with phosphorus dioxide, trioxide, and pentoxide, and hydroquinone, catechol, resorcinol and p-t-butylcatechol, and examples describe their use.
