1353687 Hexenoic compounds TAKEDA YAKUHIN KOGYO KK 19 April 1971 [7 Feb 1970 11 Feb 1970 6 Oct 1970] 49958/73 Divided out of 1353686 Heading C2C Novel compounds I and II in which Z is OH, acetoxy or halo; Z<SP>1</SP> is OH or halo; and Y<SP>2</SP> is H or 1-7C alkyl are prepared by (1) oxidation of a compound III followed, if necessary, by esterification to give I (2) reduction of a compound IV followed, where necessary, by halogenation to give II. 6 - Acetoxy - 4 - methyl - 4 - hexenal is prepared by reaction of geranyl acetate with ozone followed by decomposition of the ozonide with Me 2 S. γ<SP>1</SP> - Ethynyl - γ<SP>1</SP>-hydroxy-valeric acid is prepared by reaction of acetylene with lerulinic acid. The acid may be esterified with diazomethane to give the methyl ester.
