Abstract
1,233,834. Cupola furnaces. PENZENSKY KOMPRESSORNY ZAVOD. 14 Aug., 1969, No. 40641/69. Heading F4B. A gas fired cupola furnace is sub-divided by a water cooled shoulder 3 and a water cooled partition 4 into an upper charge melting chamber 2 and a lower molten metal heating chamber 1, the latter containing a well 15 and gas burners 18 projecting into ports 16. Droplets of molten metal from the solid charge, which is supported on partition 4, fall through passageways 5 into the molten bath in the well, which may discharge to a fore hearth (not shown). Channels 19 supply hydrocarbon gas to keep the roof bricks 12 of partition 4 cool.
