Abstract
1,233,643. Pyridine. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 13 April, 1970 [2 May, 1969], No. 22514/69. Heading C2C. Pyridine is produced by reacting 3,4-dihydro- 2H-pyran with ammonium ions or ammonia, in the liquid phase in the presence of molecular oxygen. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of water and/or an organic solvent. The preferred solvent is an aqueous solution of an alkanoic acid having up to 6 atoms in the alkyl group, e.g. acetic or propionic acid. Preferably the process is carried out in the presence of cupric or ferric ions.
