Abstract
1306219 Production of allyl alcohol IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 July 1970 [28 July 1969 12 March 1970] 37787/69 and 11932/70 Heading C2C Allyl alcohol or an allyl alcohol/water azeotrope is produced by contacting in the vapour phase propylene, oxygen and an alkanoic acid containing up to 6 carbon atoms with a catalyst comprising metallic palladium or a palladium salt and hydrolysing at least a part of the allyl alkanoate so formed with water in a distillation zone and recovering an allyl alcohol/water azeotrope from said zone, and if desired recovering allyl alcohol from said azeotrope.
