1,235,777. Alcohols by oxidation of hydrocarbons. NIPPON SHOKUBAI KAGAKU KOGYO CO. Ltd. 17 April, 1969 [17 April, 1968], No. 19779/69. Heading C2C. A process for producing alcohols by liquid phase oxidation of aliphatic saturated hydrocarbons having 10-20 carbon atoms with a gas containing molecular oxygen in the presence of a boron compound, is improved by hydrolysing the oxidation reaction products to remove the resulting boric acid, saponifying and waterwashing the products, adding a boron compound to the resulting oil layer consisting predominantly of alcohols and unreacted hydrocarbons to convert the alcohols contained in the oil layer into their boric acid esters, distilling the oil layer to separate the unreacted hydrocarbons, hydrolysing the boric acid esters to remove the resulting boric acid and distilling the obtained oil layer to recover the alcohols.
