Abstract

[Also in Division G4] A fluidic device comprises an input conduit 22 which may receive fluid under pressure, e.g. from tube 60. Conduit 22 is normally closed by resilient diaphragm 26. A cavity 42 is vented to atmosphere by ducts 46. A second input conduit 34 receives fluid from a second pressure source and has connected part-way along its length an output conduit 52. In the absence of fluid pressure at 22, e.g. due to the presence of an object passing the end of tube 60, the fluid entering conduit 34 is vented to atmosphere to give low pressure at 52. In the presence of fluid pressure at 22 diaphragm 26 closes the outlet of conduit 34, causing high positive pressure at 52. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the output conduit is connected to a Venturi in the second input conduit (134), whereby positive pressure at the first input (122) develops positive pressure at the output (148) while zero input pressure develops negative output pressure due to fluid flow in the Venturi.
