Abstract

[Also in Division B2] A prawn sorting machine comprises a pair of conveyer belts 11, 12 mounted adjacent each other and driven in the same direction, the surfaces being inclined towards each other so as to form a V-shaped trough, and the lower edges diverging in the direction of travel to form a gradually widening aperture, collecting means 29 placed at intervals beneath the aperture, one belt 12 being adjustably mounted so that its lower edge may be moved relative to the lower edge of the other belt 11, and a feeding device comprising a rotatable member 23 surrounded by a wall 25 provided with an aperture 26. The belts, which run over flat supports 15, 16, are of nylon coated with polyurethane. The adjustable belt 12 goes round pulleys mounted on pivoting arms 18 controlled by screws. The collecting means Fig. 4 comprise counter-balance tables located below chutes, each provided with a spring- loaded closure flap linked to the table, so that, when a certain weight of prawns on the table is exceeded, the table tips up, and the flap is allowed to close the end of the chute.
