Abstract

917,558. Delivering cigarettes in orderly arrangement. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. March 26, 1959 [March 28, 1958], No.10651/59; Class 130. [Also in Group II] Apparatus in which tipped cigarettes are sorted into groups such that in each group the tipped ends of all the cigarettes point in the same direction, includes an endless belt conveyer 1 on which the cigarettes 6, 8 are carried sideways, and endless belt conveyers 15, 16 each receiving a group. The shoulders 38 of the tips 7 are engaged by bristles 22 extending from endless bands 20 or 21 located above the cigarettes, and with their lower runs driven in the direction of the arrows 30, 37 with a component of movement in the direction of the arrow 5 having a speed equal to the speed of the belts. Thus as the cigarettes are carried along sideways on the central belt they are urged lengthwise of their axes to either one of the side belts. One of the bands 20, 21 may be omitted in which case only those cigarettes whose tipped ends point in one particular direction will be moved endwise whilst the others remain on the belt 1. The bristles on the bands may be inclined in that direction in which it is desired to move the cigarettes. The belts 1, 15 and 16 may have flutes each adapted to receive a cigarette.
