Abstract

Apparatus for rotating and moving aixally a tubular member 33 comprises a chuck 1 carrying rollers 18 which grip the member 33 and rotate it when the chuck 1 is rotated by means of a pulley 6 driven by a belt 35, and a rotatable member 26 adapted to be driven by a belt 36 and coupled by means of discs 23, shafts 22 worms 21 and worm wheels 20 to the rollers 18, axial movement of the tubular member 33 being effected when pulley 6 and member 26 are rotated at different speeds. The rollers 18 are carried by brackets 12 which are adjustable radially on the chuck 1. The rollers 23 are urged into engagement with the member 26 by springs 24 acting on pivotally mounted brackets 16 carrying the rollers 23.
