1380523 Pipe cutting apparatus A Z SANTANA 7 Feb 1973 6013/73 Heading B3T Apparatus for cutting and/or bevelling pipes comprises an annular body member 3 on which are rotatably supported a pair of coaxial ring members 6, 7 to which is secured at least one radially displaceable cutting tool holder 11 each ring is provided with a slot 6<SP>1</SP>, 7<SP>1</SP> respectively which lie in partially overlapping relationship, slots 7<SP>1</SP> being radial and slots 6<SP>1</SP> being straight or curved and subtending an angle at the centre of the rings one end of slot 6<SP>1</SP> being nearer the ring centre than the other end. The rings, which are coaxial with the annular body member 3 are rotated relative to the body 3 by way of an electric motor 1 mountable on the body member, the motor driving a gear 14 which meshes with the toothed outer periphery of the ring 7. A pin 13 attached to the tool carrier 11 extends into the co-operating slots 6, 7<SP>1</SP> so that operation of the motor 1 effects, by engagement of gear 14 with ring 7, simultaneous rotation of ring 6 and tool carrier around the annular body member 3. The ring members, each have teeth extending around their peripheries but the pitch of their respective teeth differ whereby engagement by the rings with a further gear(s) 16 effects relative rotation between the rings as they are rotated by the motor 1 which causes radial in feed of the tool carrier through engagement of the pin 13 in the co-operating slots 6<SP>1</SP>, 7<SP>1</SP>. In the embodiment described four cutting tool carriers and corresponding slots are provided equally spaced around the rings and body member to which parting off and bevelling tools are secured for operation on a pipe secured concentrically with the annular body member 3. The gear(s) 16 may be retracted from the ring members to permit manual adjustment of the apparatus to position the tool carriers in relation appropriate size pipes.
