Building elements comprise apertured members 1 and pins 3 for holding such members together. The apertured members 1 are preferably in the form of rectangular open-ended boxes, the four walls of which have opposing square apertures 2. These members may also be flat strips, with similar apertures. The pins 3 are of square a cross-section which snugly fits into apertures 2, and have one or more lateral grooves 5, extending round them such that when the groove is in line with the wall of the member into which the pin is inserted, it can be rotated. The walls 6 of these grooves taper towards the bottom of the groove so that the inner width 2d 1 is about 0.2 mm narrower, and the outer width 2d 2 is about 0.2 mms wider than, the dimension 2d, where d is the wallthickness of the apertured members. The pins also have cylindrical ends 9, rotatable in apertures 2, provided with cruciform or square recess on their end faces, for receiving a tool to rotate the pins. Thus when two apertured members are placed adjacent to one another so that their apertures 2 are aligned, a pin 3 can be inserted through both said members and when groove 5 is in line with the adjacent surfaces of said members, it can be twisted so that the protruding corners of the groove 5 overlap the sides of the square aperture 2; and due to the tapered nature of the groove, the members are pulled tightly together.
