Abstract

1,230,476. Cutting apparatus. FRASTAN (HOLLINWOOD) Ltd. 26 Sept., 1969 [14 Nov., 1968], No. 54022/68. Heading B4B. A cutting apparatus for cutting web material comprising a knife 5 mounted on a continuously rotatable roller 6 and adapted to coact with a blade 15 mounted on a rockable carrier 13 whereby its cutting edge is stationary during cutting but is periodically movable to an inoperative position with reference to the knife roller. The roller 6 and carrier 13 are rotatably mounted in a frame 17, the carrier being provided with trunnions 14 to which are keyed arms 19. The arms are adjustably connected via links 20 to levers 21 on a rocker-shaft (22, Fig. 1) operated, e.g. by a cam-and-follower device so that the blade 15 may be moved, after a desired interval, to an inoperative position. The carrier 13 is located in its correct operative position by means of an adjustable stop 23. The cutting edges of the knife 5 and blade 12 are mounted in opposite skewed relation relative to the axes of the roller and carrier in order to effect a shearing cut. In order that the web is severed at right angles to its length, the frame 17 is pivoted about pin (28, Fig. 1) at one end of its ends, the other end being slidable on a bracket (29) so that, via gears (31, 32) and a handwheel (30), the frame may be adjusted to the correct angle; the latter end is locked by a screw (34).
