Abstract

1,230,189. Polyolefin compositions. MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd. 4 Sept., 1969 [24 Sept., 1968], No. 45370/68. Addition to 1,175,059. Heading C3P. Compositions for sheathing electrical cables comprising conductors and intermediate insulating coatings comprise a polyolefin and 0À15 to 0.35 weight per cent, based on the polyolefin, of an amide slip additive. The polyolefin may be a polymer of ethylene, propylene and/or butylene, and optionally minor proportions of ethylenically unsaturated nitriles, halides or esters. Specified amides are caprylamide, capramide, lauramide, myristamide, palmitamide, stearamide oleamide, linoleamide and erucamide. The compositions may also contain carbon black and antioxidants, and may be formed using a master batch. An example describes compositions of polyethylene, antioxidant and oleamide. The antioxidant may be 4,4<SP>1</SP>-thiobis-(6-t.-butyl-m-cresol), and the polymers may be cross-linked by irradiation or with peroxides.
