In a frame for supporting printed circuit boards 13 in which the guide rails 9 for the boards are each provided with two pairs of pins 11 for plugging into holes 7 in metal supporting plates 5, the two pins 11 of the pair located near one end of a guide rail are off-set over equal lateral distances with respect to those of the pair located near the other end, whilst the holes 7 of one row of holes are displaced over half the pitch a of the holes with respect to the holes 7 of the other row. In this way the distance between the centres of two adjacent guide rails need not be a whole multiple of the pitch a but may have intermediate values, thereby enabling space to be saved when units of different thicknesses are used. The pins 11 in the arrangement of Fig. 2 are such that two pins can be inserted into one round hole 7 and are provided on recesses 15 and protruding parts 14 of the guide rail 9. In the arrangement of Fig. 4 (not shown), the shortest distance between the two pins located near one end of a guide rail 9 matches the shortest distance between two consecutive holes 7 whereas the shortest distance between the pins 11 near the other end of the guide rail matches that between two holes separated from each other by at least one intermediate hole. The arrangement of Fig. 5 (not shown) is similar to Fig. 4, but each hole receives only one pin and the holes may be smaller. The guide rails may not have the pins formed on recessed and protruding parts thereof and the guide rails are then symmetric, Fig. 6 (not shown). The two pins at one end of a guide rail may be displaced in the same direction over half the pitch of the holes with respect to the two other pins, Fig. 7 (not shown).
