Abstract

[Also in Division B8] In automatically binding rod-like elements (see Division B8), the end of binding wire G, fed through a feed device 27, is gripped in clamp 28 on a C-shaped sector 15 and is carried thereby around the elements accommodated within the sector 15 as the latter is rotated so as to cross the in-fed wire (Fig. 3). The crossed wire is gripped and twisted by pliers 16 and the ends cut by rotary circular knife blade 22 co-operating with a fixed blade 23. The length of wire remaining in clamp 28 is ejected and the new end is carried by the device 27 to the clamp 28. Rotation of the pliers and cutters is from sector 3 through shaft 5 bevel gears 17, 18 and gears 19, 20, and closing of the pliers is effected by a cam on the gear 20 when the knife 22 and the pliers 16 encounter the resistance of the wire to be sheared.
