Abstract
1,229,463. Cathode-ray tubes. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc. 27 Aug., 1968 [31 Jan., 1968], No. 40892/68. Heading H1D. A ring magnet retainer for mounting on the neck of a colour television tube to support two blue lateral correction ring magnets 30, 30a and two colour purity magnets 31, 31a, comprises two annular mounting members 14 and 16 adapted to be disposed round the tube with the first member 14 arranged eccentrically, each member including on each edge radially extending shoulders (such as 46) between which the magnets are gripped; the members are joined at the top by a saddle-like portion 18 to which are hinged two straps (of which only one, 24a, is shown in Fig. 1) which encircle the tube and are joined together where they meet, and at the lower end the members 14 and 16 are joined by an L-shaped part comprising an axial portion 20 and a radial portion 22. The strap 24a is preferably formed integrally with its hinge 25a and may be provided with a pressure pad (28a, Fig. 6, not shown) adapted to engage the tube, and may be bolted (Fig. 3, not shown) or riveted (Fig. 9, not shown) to its co-operating strap, or the two straps may be formed with shaped ends which interengage (Fig. 8, not shown). The support member 14 may be indented in the vicinity of the saddle portion 18 so that the ends of the indented portion form stop surfaces which co-operate with a protuberance 50a on magnet 30 and with a similar protuberance (not shown in Fig. 1) on magnet 30a to limit rotation of the magnets. A similar arrangement is provided to limit the rotation of the purity magnets. The entire mounting member assembly can be injection moulded in one piece in a two-plate mould from nylon.
