The stroke of a swash-plate pump or motor is controlled manually, automatically or hydraulically by means of a mechanism comprising an axially slidable hollow guide member closed at one end and provided with a cut-out in its cylindrical wall for locating the end of the stroke control lever which engages the closed end and axially movable means in the bore of the guide member. The guide member is hydraulically loaded and opposes movement by the axially movable means, which movement is caused manually by screw means, by a spring or by hydraulic pressure.
