Abstract
1,224,685. Photographic silver halide emulsions. AGFA-GAVAERT A.G. July 14, 1969 [July 19, 1968], No.35271/69. Heading G2C. The latent-image and developed silver image stability of a photographic silver halide emulsion layer is increased by incorporating into the emulsion before exposure a complex compound of iron with ligand a pyrrole, pyrroline, pyrrolidine, imidazole, imidazoline, imidazolidine, pyridine, hydrogenated pyridine, indole, oxazole, oxazine pyrazole, pyrazoline or pyrazolidine compound or a polyvinyl pyridine in an amount to provide 0À5 mg to 5g of iron per litre of emulsion. The complex compound may be added at any stage in the preparation of the emulsion, e.g. by addition to the binder or to the emulsion at the chemical ripening stage or the emulsion layer may be treated with an aqueous solution of the complex. The complex may be added preformed, or an iron salt and the heterocyclic compound may be added to form the complex in situ. Preferred heterocyclic compounds are N-methyl-pyrrole, benzimidazole, imidazole, 2-methyl-imidazole, ethylene urea and polymers of vinyl-pyridine and 5-methyl-2-vinylpyridine. The invention is of particular utility with non-gelatine binders.
