Abstract
1,224,306. Making rod, rolling at specified temperatures. HUTTENWERK OBERHAUSEN A.G. 7 May, 1969 [21 May, 1968], No. 23326/69. Headings B3A and B3V. [Also in Division C7] A process for the production of patented rod by quenching the rod rapidly to a temperature of from 480-580 C. as it emerges from a rod mill is characterized in that the rolling temperature is brought to the lowest possible point consistent with removing within the austenitic range. The wire is rolled at a temperature between the AC 3 point (about 760 C.) and 1000C., preferably as near the AC 3 point as possible. In an example, a rod containing 0À66% C., 0À76% Mn, 0À23% Si, 0À019% P and 0À029% S and the remainder iron is rolled to a diameter of 5À5 mm. at 850 C., cooled to 520 C. at an average rate of 40 C./sec., two seconds after leaving the final rolling stand and held at this temperature for 12 seconds until the alpha-gamma transformation has been completed.
