Abstract

An electrostatic holding device for recording paper comprises a flexible insulating film having on its underside an adherent or anodized metallic layer, and on its upper side a layer of poorly conductive material of specific resistance 10<SP>10</SP> to 10<SP>13</SP> ohm cm. Thereupon is superimposed a conductive grid or net with a surrounding frame; formed of printed or adherent metal strips, and a 500-1500 direct voltage switchably applied with positive to the underside layer and negative to the grid or net. A sheet of paper or the like laid on the grid thus becomes cathodic, and is retained electrostatically Any charge produced in the grid by movement of the paper after voltage disconnection is discharged through the poorly conductive layer. The device is mounted on a conventional recording instrument.
