Abstract

1,224,136. Pipe &c. joints. VALLOUREC USINES A TUBES DE LORRAINE-ESCAUT ET VALLOUREC REUNIES. 24 April, 1969, No. 21018/69. Heading F2G. Two elements 1, 2, e.g. tubes or rods, are each provided with a screw-threaded end and assembled in coaxial abutment by a coaxial sleeve 3 having screw-threads in engagement with those of the elements. The screw-threads of the elements and sleeve are substantially cylindrical threads having the roots thereof parallel to the common axis of the abutted elements and the flanks thereof perpendicular to that axis, and a selected number of adjacent threads of each element are cylindrical threads of known form and constant height adapted to engage similar adjacent threads positioned at an appropriate side of the transverse median plane of the sleeve and the threads of the elements and sleeve which form continuations of threads of constant height progressively diminish in height substantially to zero at the approach to at least one end of the screwthreaded length whereby an element and sleeve are connected together. When the connection is completed element threads of constant height are in screw engagement with sleeve threads of constant height and element threads of progressively diminishing height are in screwed engagement with sleeve threads of similarly progressively diminishing height, the forces generated to hold the elements in abutment being carried by the engaged perpendicular flanks of the threads without the creation of radial force components. The sleeve 3 may be located externally, as shown, or internally of the elements 1, 2.
