[Also in Division F2] A method of connecting one member to another in endwise relationship consists in providing a member 10 with a box of which the interior has a smooth portion 13 at each open end succeeded by sharp serrations 11 which bite into the outer surface of a member 14 when the latter is forced into the bore. The serrations may be parallel to the axis of the bore or oblique to it. A connector tube 10 with two such bores as shown in Fig. 1 with a stop 12 separating the two serrated portions may be provided to connect two rods or tubes 14. Figs. 2 to 4 (not shown) illustrate embodiments in which the bores at either end of the connector are separable, being inter - connected by a screwed spigot-and-socket joint at the middle of the tube's length. If separated the screwed end may be screwed on to or into a rod or a tube to provide it with a connector bore. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6 the stop 12 has conical ramps on either side adjoining grooves into which the lip of a pipe, preferably radiused internally, will be flared outwards when it is forced into the bore and thereby resist withdrawal. The groove 28 may be filled with a settable sealing compound. Two bores may be arranged in an elbow joint with anvil surfaces 32 to receive hammer blows for assembly as in Fig. 7.
