Abstract
1,223,038. Reciprocating pumps. BURMEISTER & WAIN'S MASKIN-OG SKIBSBYGGERI AS. Dec.16, 1968 [Dec.22, 1967], No.59711/68. Heading F1A. In a mechanism for disengaging the drive of a F/I pump comprising a rotating cam 2 and a follower e. g. a roller 7 journalled in a follower guide 5 connected to the pump piston and secured to a cam member 25, an arm 24 is pivoted on a shaft 18 from a neutral position 0 to which it is biased by a spring 26 and in which it does not engage the cam member 25 to a first locking position I in which it raises the cam member 25, and subsequently to a second locking position II in the movement of which it is aided by engagement of the follower 7 with the apex of the rotating cam 2. In the first and second locking positions the arm 24 rests in recesses 28, 30 respectively in the under surface of the cam member 25 and in the latter position the follower 7 is lifted completely from the cam 2. The arm is pivoted by a pneumatic ram 13 acting on the arm through a coupling arm 17 on the shaft 18 with a lostmotion coupling comprising a member 19 with radially extending coupling surfaces 20, 21 interacting with opposed surfaces 22, 23 on the hub of the arm 17. When the drive is to be re-engaged, the ram moves the arm 24 in to the first locking position after which the apex of the rotating cam 2 raises the cam member 25 sufficiently for the spring 26 to return the arm to the neutral position. It is stated that the pneumatic ram may be replaced by a hydraulic cylinder or a manually operated lever.
