Abstract

1,222,647. Pill dispensers. ORTHO PHARMACEUTICAL CORP. 30 Jan., 1969 [20 Feb., 1968], No. 5169/69. Heading B8P. A pill dispenser comprises a base 11 with individual pill compartments 15 and a cover 12 with a pill exit 16 rotatably mounted on the base. An indicating dial 14 is rotatably mounted between the cover and the base and is advanced by one indicium when the cover is rotated to an adjacent pill compartment. The indicating dial is positively connected to the base except when one predetermined compartment is at the outlet position, and when this occurs the indicating dial can be rotated without relative movement of the base and cover. Teeth 46 on the indicating dial 14 are normally engaged by teeth 18 on the base and the dial is advanced one indicium as the next pill compartment is rotated under the outlet 16, reverse rotation being prevented by a ratchet 26. At the one pill position shown in Fig. 5, teeth 18 are replaced by two small teeth 18a with bevelled tops 50 which will rotate the indicator but will also allow rotation of the indicator for resetting the indicium for that cavity. Exit 16 may be temporarily closed by a flap 39 equipped with finger 40 which engages in a recess 42 and prevents relative rotation of the base and cover. The side wall of the lid is serrated to assist gripping.
