Abstract
1,221,798. Moulding pipe ends. INTERNATIONAL PIPE & CERAMICS CORP. 5 Feb., 1968, No. 5759/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions C3 and F2] Pipe joints for connecting pipe sections may be formed from a polyurethane composition. Fig. 1 shows the formation of a sealing polyurethane gasket for a bell-type pipe end and Fig. 2 shows the formation of a similar gasket for the spigot end of a pipe section of the same size as in Fig. 1. A male mould 1 is inserted in the bell end 2 of a pipe section 3 and the polyurethane forming mixture poured into the bell end 2 of the pipe. A rubber mould ring 4 may be positioned within the bell end and around the internal pipe mould 1 to form the inner wall of the sealing ring cavity. After the polyurethane sealing ring 5 has been cast the male mould 1 is withdrawn and the rubber mould ring 4 can then be collapsed and withdrawn. The mould 6 for the spigot end 7 of the pipe section 8 is simply a mould chamber having the necessary internal configurations. The sealing rings so produced may be frictionally interfitted to join pipe sections 3 and 8. Suitably, the inside surface of the bell end 2 and the outside surface of the spigot end 7 can be treated with a primer, which is suitably a silicone or silane, prior to the pouring of the liquid polyurethane reaction mixture.
