Abstract

1,221,701. Ignition systems. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Feb.9, 1968 [Feb.11, 1967], No.6558/68. Heading F1B. [Also in Division H2] In a Piezo-electric igniter, pressure on a button 22 compresses a spring 21 against the head 26 of a striker 18 until the button forces resilient tongues 20 out of locking engagement with the head whereupon the spring 21 accelerates the stroker into sudden engagement with a pair of parallel-connected Piezo-electric elements 14 to produce a high voltage spark at the gap 28, the elements being supported by an anvil 11 which is separated from the housing 10 of the igniter by a rubber disc 12 so that the mass of the anvil is independent of the housing mass. The pressure drop occurring in the elements 14 after impingement of the stroker produces a secondary discharge across the gap 28 in the opposite direction. This may be prolonged by a slightly inductive series resistor 29 which may be the interference suppression cable for an I. C. engine.
