Abstract
989,317. Ignition systems. CLEVITE CORPORATION. July 8, 1963 [July 19, 1962], No. 26900/63. Heading F1B. The invention relates to ignition systems comprising a voltage source 20, a magnetically responsive vacuum switch means 34 disposed in series between the voltage source and the sparking member 36 and a magnet associated with the switch to cause operation of the switch. The invention is particularly applicable to internal combustion engine ignition systems comprising a piezo-electric generator as the voltage source. As shown the switch means is a magnetically responsive reed type vacuum switch. It may be operated by a magnet 42 mounted on the engine flywheel or the switch may be mounted on the engine flywheel. In Fig. 3 both the switch and the magnet are stationary and the switch is operated when a window 46 in the rotary shield 44 is in the appropriate position. There may be a plurality of magnetically responsive switches each connected to an associated sparking plug. Specifications 918,925 and 967,649 are referred to.
