Abstract

[Also in Division B8] A clamping cylinder for a rolling mill rests on the mill housing 1 and has a jack cylinder 4 with three bores successively forming housings for a working piston 6, a precompression piston 5 and a closure plate 8. Auxiliary fluid at a pressure markedly higher than the working pressure in chamber 10 is initially admitted into chamber 14 and the jack then operated conventionally. In the event of overpressure a detector 19 acts to open an ultra-rapid, fullopening valve 16 to bring about an immediate decompression of the system.
