Abstract
1,221,401. Magnesia bricks. OSTERREICHISCH - AMERIKANISCHE MAGNESIT A.G. 15 Jan., 1969 [18 Jan., 1968], No. 2502/69. Headings CIA and C1J. A fired magnesia brick with a lime-silica ratio of between 1.65 and 2.50, consists of more than 50 wt. per cent coarse magnesia particles of at least 0.3 mm., and of less than 50% fine magnesia particles of at most 0.2 mm., the coarse magnesia particles comprising only a magnesia having a lime-silica ratio of between 1.87 and 5.0, at least 2% of the fine magnesia particles having a lime-silica ratio of below 1.0 being present, and both the coarse and the fine magnesia particles having a content of less than 1% Fe 2 O 3 . The bricks are pressed from the mixed particles which can be mixed with a binder such as tar, pitch, bitumen or waste sulphite liquor. The fired brick can be impregnated with tar, pitch or bitumen. The magnesia particles used can be either sintered or fused and contain from 94.2 to 96.2 wt. per cent MgO.
