Abstract
1,221,138. Photographic silver halide emulsions. IL FORD Ltd. Aug. 20, 1969 [Aug. 21, 1968], No.40027/68. Heading G2C. A process for the production of a photographic silver halide emulsion comprises adding to the emulsion, after chemical sensitization and before it is coated on to a base, a metal chelating agent which is diethylene triamine-N, N, N<SP>1</SP>, N<SP>11</SP>, N<SP>11</SP>- penta-acetic acid, triethylene tetramine N, N, N<SP>1</SP>, N<SP>11</SP>, N<SP>111</SP>, N<SP>111</SP>-hexa-acetic acid or 1, 2-diaminocyclohexane-N, N, N<SP>1</SP>, N<SP>1</SP>-tetra-acetic acid. The amount of chelating agent added is preferably 0À3 to 1O per gram mol of silver halide in the emulsion and in the case of diethylene triamine-N, N, N1 , Nii, N<SP>11</SP>-penta-acetic acid or triethylene tetramine-N , N , N<SP>1</SP>, N<SP>11</SP>, N<SP>111</SP>, N<SP>111</SP>-hexa-acetic acid 3g. per gram mol of silver halide in the emulsion and in the case of 1, 2-diaminocyclohexane-N, N, N<SP>1</SP>, N<SP>1</SP>-tetra-acetic acid 6g. per gram mol of silver halide in the emulsion. The metal chelating agent is preferably added to the photographic silver halide emulsion as an aqueous solution. The object of the present invention is to reduce the spot-producing effect of heavy metal particles in the emulsion or in operative contact therewith. In the example copper particles are dispersed in an aqueous gelatine solution which is coated on a support. The chelating agents are added after chemical sensitization because they affect the sensitivity of the emulsion as described in Specification 1, 221, 137.
