Abstract

1,221,137. Photographic silver halide emulsions. ILFORD Ltd. Aug. 20, 1969 [Aug.21, 1968], No.40026/68. Heading G2C. A process for the production of a photographic colloid silver halide emulsion comprises forming the silver halide grains in the presence of a metal chelating agent which is diethylene triamine- N, N , N<SP>1</SP>, N<SP>11</SP>, N<SP>11</SP>-penta-acetic acid, triethylene tetramine-N; N , N1 , N<SP>11</SP>, N<SP>111</SP>, N<SP>111</SP>-hexa-acetic acid or 1, 2-diaminocydohexane-N, N, N<SP>1</SP>, N<SP>1</SP>- tetra-acetic acid. Preferably at least 3g. of the said chelating agent per gram mol of silver is present during the formation of the silver halide grains. The silver halide emulsions of the present invention have enhanced light-sensitivity. However if the chelating agent is added at a later stage in the emulsion making process no sensitivity enhancement of the resulting silver halide emulsion is obtained. Specification 1, 221, 138 discloses a process for the production of a photographic emulsion having a reduced tendency to develop desensitized spots due to inclusions in the emulsion, whichcomprises adding to the emulsion, after the chemical sensitization of the emulsion, but before it is coated on a support to form a photographic material, a metal chelating agent as defined above.
