Abstract
1,220,117. Injection moulding. J. U. GELLERT. 3 May, 1968, No. 21047/68. Heading B5A. A hot runner mould 10, Fig. 1, has a needle valve 26 in the runner. The mould comprises two cavity defining parts 14, 16 the latter of which has guide pins 98 and knock-out pins 94. The mould part 14 comprises two parts 56, 58 held together by screws 60 and attached to the collar 12 by headed pins 42 but biased away therefrom by springs 48. The mould part 56 receives the hot runner element 18 and the valve 30, 26, 22 extends from the runner so that its head 24 is engaged by a rocker bar 74 actuated in a valve opening direction by an adjustable screw 54 and in a valve closing direction by a piston rod 86. The valve opening is effected on mould closing and clamping and the opening is effected when, on release of moulding pressure, the mould is moved by springs 48 away from the collar 12. The hot runner element 18 has a projection 32 received in a slightly larger hole in the mould part 58 so that, on injection, material surrounds the projection as shown, to retain the heat in the runner.
