Abstract

1,219,117. Cutting machines. CINCINNATI MILLING MACHINE CO. 20 May, 1968 [7 Sept., 19671, No. 24025/68. Heading B4B. A cutting machine comprises a flexible band 25 supporting material 42 to be cut, the band 25 being connected at its ends to end plates 12, 14 of a frame 10 and passing around rollers 21 to 24 of a longitudinally movable carriage 19 to define a loop 26, the band 25 being supported by rollers 60 which are formed in two groups 66, 67, the ends of the shafts of the rollers in the groups 66, 67, the ends of the shafts of the rollers in the groups 66, 67 being connected to one another by links 68, 70 respectively, the links 68 closest to the carriage being connected to posts 69 at one side of the carriage and the links 70 closest to the carriage being connected to posts 71 at the other side of the carriage. The ends of the groups 66, 67 of rollers remote from their connections to the carriage have their terminal links 68, 70 connected to one another by springs 72. The rollers 60 not supporting the band 25 are supported by guides 73, 74, 78 secured to the frame 10. The carriage supports a reciprocating cutting blade 35, Fig. 2, mounted between slides 36, 37 and movable through a small gap (31), Fig. 3 (not shown), formed in the throat 27, Fig. 1, of the loop 26. The throat is reduced to the small gap by means of throatway sections 29, 30. The slides 36, 37, Fig. 2, are movable along pairs of shafts 38, 39, Fig. 1, and 40, 41 by means of screws 43, 44, Fig. 2, driven in unison by means of a reversible motor 45. The carriage is movable longitudinally relative to the band 25 by means of a reversible motor 50 which rotates a shaft 52 having at its oppoite ends gears 56, 57 meshing with racks 58, 59 respectively.
