Abstract

1397834 Tube rolling mills T A SAKSAGANSKY P I ORRO B A ISKRA V S MATVEEN B I VARENIK and N S KIRILENKO 28 Sept 1972 44746/72 Heading B3M A tube rolling mill comprises a pair of working rolls 11 and 16 which are reciprocated and rotated in a stationary housing 8 by means of rack- and-pinion drives connected to main driving cranks 2 and connecting rods 1. As the cranks rotate, the racks 4 are reciprocated and mesh with gears 10 (Fig. 2) associated with the roll 11 to drive the roll. The meshing of the gears 10 with side racks 15 and with gears 17 associated with the roll 16 causes both rolls to be reciprocated and rotated in unison. Idler gears 21 mesh with the gears 17 and with further racks 25 at the top of the housing. The upper and side racks are able to shift longitudinally to a limited extent, in order to reduce slipping between a tube being rolled and the pass grooves. Springs at the ends of the racks bias them towards central positions. Rollers 28 associated with the rolls move along upper and lower guide bars 27 which are adjustable towards or away from each other by wedges 29.
