Abstract
1,218,744. Crop sprayers. CHEMICAL SPRAYING CO. Ltd. 11 June, 1968 [28 June, 1967], No. 29811/67. Heading A1D. A boom constructed to support a crop spraying device 10 and prevent the outer end striking the ground, has an inner member 12 which is attached at one end to a vehicle and at the other end has an extension 13 which is pivoted about a horizontally disposed pin (20), Fig. 2 (not shown), and is counterbalanced by a strut 23. A rod 17 rotatably connects the extension to the boom, an abutment (22) limiting the movement. The strut 23 is located in a collar 24 which is pivoted to the rod 17. A spring 25 resiliently supports the extension 3 whilst a corrugated rubber sleeve 26 provides damping for pivotal movement. The inner end of the member 12 is pivoted by a rod 14 to a frame 11 which is rigidly attached to a tractor. Strut 28 is located in a collar 29 which is pivoted to the shaft 14. A sprocket 16 is attached to the frame 11 whilst a sprocket 18 is attached to rod 17. An endless chain passes around both sprockets and the ratio is 2 : 1 so that as member 12 is pivoted to lie against the tractor, the extension pivots to lie alongside member 12. In a modification a weight is slidably attached to the extension to alter its inertia. In a second modification the damping means 26 is a hydraulic or pneumatic dashpot. In a further modification hinge pin (20) is replaced by a resilient member, e.g. spring steel. A feeler member may be mounted near the outer end of the extension with a foot member to further prevent the boom end from striking the ground.
