[Also in Division H]] A tuning circuit comprises a magnetically variable inductance 6 between the poles of a variable-field magnet 11. The inductance 6 (see Division H1) comprises a P-type semi-conductor region spaced from an N-type semi-conductor region by an insulating layer, common ohmic contacts being provided at both ends of the semi-conductor regions. To complete the tuning circuit, the frequency of which is varied by adjusting the magnet-current I, a capacitor 12 is provided, either in parallel with or in series with the inductance 6. A superheterodyne arrangement in which two magnetically variable inductances (6), Fig. 12 (not shown), are positioned in the gap of a variable-field magnet ((11), is also described.
