Abstract

1,023,106. Radio transmitters; tuning amplifiers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. June 3, 1964 [June 28, 1963], No. 22992/64. Headings H3T and H4L. In order to tune aerial 22 to transmitter 20 by shunting portion 15 of loading coil 10 silicon controlled rectifiers 24, 30 are provided as shown, trigger pulses, Fig. 2b, 2d, being applied alternately via transformers 36, 40 at respective times when the current through loading coil portion 14, Fig. 2a, is a minimum. Curves, Fig. 2c, 2e represent the current flow through respective rectifiers 24, 30 and Fig. 2f represents the current through portion 15. If the losses associated with the rectifiers, albeit low, are to be reduced further, D.C. voltage sources are placed in series with them, Fig. 3 (not shown). Various transmitter frequencies may be catered for by utilizing sets of such circuits associated with a multi-tapped portion 15, Figs. 4, 5 (neither shown).
