Heading F4B. [Also in Division F2] An evaporatively cooled gate valve damper for use in the hot air supply system of a blast furnace has its closure member 4, seat rings 5 and body 6 connected into a cooling circuit which includes a steam-water separator 1, distribution and collection headers 9 and 10, and a series of individual supply and return pipes 11 and 12, respectively. The coolant space 13 of the closure member 4 is connected to the headers 9, 10 by means of pipes 14 constituting rods of the member 4, said rods being connected to stationary pipes 11 and 12 by means of movable pipes 15 and articulated joints 16. The header 9 is located above the damper at a level higher than the place 17 where pipes 14, 15 are connected to the stationary pipes 11, 12. Water is supplied from the separator 1 through pipe 7, steam-water mixture being returned from the cooled damper through pipe 8.
