Abstract

1,218,242. Supplying gas to internalcombustion petrol engines. MILBANK & KEITH GARAGES Ltd. Feb. 3, 1969 [Feb. 17, 1968; April 22, 1968], Nos. 7883/68 and 18989/68. Heading F1B. Means for supplying gas to an internal combustion engine as an alternative fuel comprises an adaptor 6 which is for attachment to the petrol carburetter 7 on the air intake side thereof and which includes a restricted throat 8 representing a primary flow path for air entering the carburetter a supply line 5 for delivering gas to the interior of the throat and a regulator (not shown) for controlling the pressure and volume of gas delivered to the throat. The adaptor further includes a valve rotatable between one position which is adopted when petrol is to be used as fuel for the engine and in which an additional secondary flow-path is open to air entering the carburetter and another position which is adopted when gas is to be used as the fuel and in which the secondary flowpath is closed. The supply line terminates at the delivery end in a separate jet 9 which is carried by the rotatable valve. A solenoid operated shut-off valve may be included in the gas supply line and a further such valve may be incorporated in the existing petrol supply line.
