Abstract

1,217,858. Rotary cutter drums. HEELEY (MINING MACHINERY) CO. Ltd. 26 Sept., 1968 [13 Oct., 1967], No. 46907/67. Heading E1F. A coal cutter drum comprises parts 40 adapted to receive cutter picks 46 and extending longitudinally of the drum, the parts being carried at or near their ends by supports which are variable in size radially of the drum. The supports are provided by end-plates 16 each of which has an inner portion 20 and outer portions 22 having guides and mating- parts 24, 26 whereby the distance of each outer-portion from the drum axis may be varied, replaceable distance pieces 28, 30 being provided between the portions 20, 22 if desired. The parts 40 are helical and each carries two rows of picks. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the adjacent edges of the outer portions of the end plates extend radially of the drum and have distance pieces disposed between them. In a third embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the guides and mating parts are omitted, and there are five outer portions. The parts 40 may be straight and have a single row of picks, and the distance pieces may be adjustable, e.g. wedges or screw jacks.
