1441609 Mining machines GREEN & BINGHAM Ltd 29 Nov 1974 [7 Dec 1973] 56829/73 Heading E1F A rotary cutting head for a mineral mining machine comprises a tubular body shell 1 around which is arranged one or more helical or part-helical vanes, or one or more helical or part-helical runs of overlapping or butted plates, the vanes or plates having pick holders, and the pitch of the or each helix or parthelix varying in at least two steps, e.g. 3 or 8, from a minimum value at the face side of the head to a maximum value at the machine side of the head. The change in pitch angle, e.g. 3‹ to 10‹, may be the same at each step or greater at steps closer to the machine side of the head than at steps closer to the face side of the head. In the embodiment where the number of steps is infinite the developed outline of the or each helix or part-helix takes the form of a continuous curve, e.g. part of a parabola.
