Abstract

1,217,647. Alarm timepieces. EASTERN TIME Ltd. June 26, 1969, No.32386/69. Heading G3T. An alarm timepiece includes a hammer 3 pivotally mounted for reciprocal movement to intermittently engage a bell or the like to produce an audible noise, and a trip spring 4 and a pin 1 each movable between a hammer restricting and a hammer releasing position. Lugs 7 on an hour wheel 6 driven by a mainspring are normally out of engagement with openings in an adjustable alarm time setting wheel 5 so that the spring 4 mounted on a front plate 9 has its L-shaped end biased into engagement with a lug 3a of the hammer to prevent the hammer striking the bell. At the pre-set time and with the pin in its upper position as shown, the spring 4 releases the hammer which is reciprocated against the bell by an escapement driven by an alarm gear train. At the end of the alarm period the spring 4 is biased back into engagement with the lug 3a and may intercept the hammer between the hammer and its rest position. Depression of the pin 1 however causes rotation of the hammer so that the inclined face of the lug 3a cams the spring towards the other face of the lug thus enabling the hammer to return to its rest position.
