Abstract

1,217,282. Induction furnaces. BROWN BOVERI & CO. Ltd. 20 Jan., 1969 [22 Jan., 1968], No. 3116/69. Heading H5H. An induction crucible furnace with an associated yoke arrangement (not shown) has a coil compression device arranged to exert an upwardly directed resilient force on the lowest turn 1 or 41 of the induction coil to compensate for shortening of the coil caused by thermal expansion movement of the crucible (not shown), the compression device being mounted independently of the yoke arrangement. The coil compression device includes a packet of springs 9 or 27 which is adjustably pre-stressed by tightening a nut 11 or 31 on a rod 6 or a bolt 28 which transmits the upwardly directed force to the coil turn 1 or 41 via thrust components 2, 3, 4, 5, or via a double-armed first order lever 21, respectively. Rod 6 is adjustably screwed into socket 5. The height of the lever fulcrum axis 22, Fig. 3 (not shown), is adjustable by movement of a bolt 24 in a socket 25. Several compression devices may be spaced around the periphery of the coil turn.
