[Also in Division F2] A coupling between two ducts 3, 4 having flanges 1, 2 and which is adapted to be coupled by remote handling equipment comprises pins 5 on one of the flanges 1 engaging in holes 6 in the other flange 2 so as to align laterally open slots in the flanges for receiving bolts 12, preferably four symmetrically disposed bolts, the bolts being tightened in diametrically opposite pairs by a tool having electrically driven screwing sockets 16 (only one shown) engaging with nuts : as 14, on the bolts 12, the head 11 of each bolt being square and being prevented from turning by engagement with spaced fins 10 on the body of the duct 3 and resting on a platform 13, the tool and the bolts being moved into position along slides 9 located by engagement with a square guide member 8 on the body of the duct 3. Splines 15 on the nuts 14 prevent jamming in the sockets 16, and when the nuts of one pair of diametrically opposite bolts have been tightened to a predetermined torque as determined by the current through the motors operating the screwing sockets 16, then the tool is moved to tighten the other pair of bolts 12 to the same degree. In this way the bolts are progressively tightened in pairs until the desired final torque is reached. A greater number of bolts may be used if desired provided these are arranged in diametrically opposite pairs and the guide member 8 is modified accordingly.
