Abstract

1,215,972. I.C. engine valves. SOC. D'ETUDES DE MACHINES THERMIQUES. Jan. 9, 1968 [May 25, 1967], No.1250/68. Heading F1B. [Also in Division F2] A poppet valve, e.g. an I.C. engine exhaust valve, has a thermal screen 6 of metal powder and/or ceramic material adjacent the seat insert 4. The screen 6 may be formed from one or more metal powders, e.g. aluminium, by a metallization process, a mixture of sintered ceramic and metal powder, or as a refractory body, e.g. zircon or alumina. The seat insert 4 may be carried by a ring (10 or 13), Fig.3 or 4 (not shown), screwthreaded to the valve head 2. A space not filled with insulating material may be provided between the ring (10), Fig.3 (not shown), and the valve head 2.
