Abstract

1,214,445. Lubricating; lubricant container. SPETSIALNOE KONSTRUKTORSKOE BJORO PO ELEKTROBURENIJU. 27 Jan., 1969, No. 4433/69. Heading F2A. A lubricator for lubricating the contact surfaces of electrical connector elements of electric cables comprises a lubricant reservoir 2; a member 4 which is removably attachable to the reservoir, is shaped to fit the connector elements to be lubricated, is provided with a porous resilient material 5 to transfer lubricant to the connector element engaged thereby, and has grooves 6 which connect the resilient material 5 to the lubricant in the reservoir, via a metering device 7. The latter has a cylinder 8, having ports 9 and an outlet 10 with a non-return valve 11 therein. A piston 12 is received by the cylinder 8, and is connected, by means of a rod 13, to a cap 14, the latter being movable relatively to the reservoir 2 by means of a handle 15 and being returned by means of a spring 16. Thickening of the lubricant is prevented by means of heating elements 17 which are fitted to the reservoir 2 and to the member 4. An annular tube 19, having air jet openings 20, is supplied with pressurized-air to clean the contact elements, the pressurized air being fed along pipes 21, 22 when a valve 23 is opened. When the lubricator is fitted over an electrical connector and urged thereto, lubricant is transferred from the porous resilient material 5 to the contact element, excess lubricant being absorbed by the material 5 upon removal of the lubricator. The handle 15, and consequently the piston 12, is moved to force replacement lubricant to the material 5, via the valve 11 and grooves 6. The reservoir is replenished with lubricant via an opening 3, Fig. 2, and is connected to atmosphere, via openings 24, 26 and a duct 25 in the rod 13.
