Abstract

1,214,402. Making terminals. AMP Inc. 27 March, 1969 [2 April, 1968], No. 15676/68. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H2] A terminal is stamped and formed from a sheet metal blank in one piece to include a tubular screw portion 1 integral with a wire connecting portion 4 at opposed ends of the terminal. One end of the sheet metal blank is cut to have a lateral extension of frusto-conical shape and a series of ridges and grooves is cut in the extension, which is then rolled or folded up. The portion 1 is preferably tapered and its longitudinal axis may lie normal or parallel to the axis of the portion 4, which may either be formed as a ferrule to be crimped to a wire or as a tab (8) for engagement with a mating receptacle, Fig. 7 (not shown). To assist in screwing the terminal into a panel aperture, a screwdriver slot 5 may be formed in the portion 1, and the resilience of the threaded portion, due to the provision of a slot 3, holds the terminal tight in the aperture.
